Thomas Strønen (drums)
Ian Bellamy (saxophone & effects)
This duo has come a long way. It all started in 1998 at the festival in Molde, Norway. From the beginning, "Food"'s music was completely improvised - and it remains so to this day, even though soon after their debut, which was completed as a quartet, Norwegian drummer Thomas Strønen and saxophonist Iain Bellamy, a Brit, went their own ways after the band began as a quartet.
The abandonment of finished compositions, the free playing always holds a special charm, but also the risk of failure. All attention is given to the passing moment - either it fits, or an opportunity is missed.
By now, Strønen and Bellamy have proven often enough that their hit rate is exceptionally high. The space she fills with electronic textures plays a big role with them. Delicate melodies grow from this ambient root, magnificent branches and blossoms burst forth into radiant light.

The whole thing has been steadily evolving. Initial recordings on a small UK label were followed by support from "Rune Gramofon"'s Scandinavian talent pool, and their most recent CDs to date have been released for Munich's upmarket ECM label. Most recently, "This is not a miracle" was released in November 2015, where the two showed themselves from a gently rocking side. The title of this record can be taken literally: This music is not a miracle at all. It has been consistently worked out in a persistent process.
