It was supposed to be a really big event, turning the whole city into a runway. But the Corona virus also threw a spanner in the works of the premiere of Frankfurt Fashion Week. And so the fair with its numerous offerings will primarily take place digitally. However, some events are also planned in public spaces, such as exhibitions, vernissages or runway shows. The heart of the digital programme is the FFW STUDIO. It offers conferences, talks or panels. In addition, inspiring show cases and presentations, new retail concepts and brand stories will be streamed, making fashion, beauty and lifestyle products and concepts tangible.

From 5 to 9. From 5 to 9 July 2021, leading stakeholders and representatives of the industry, experts from the worlds of fashion, politics, retail and the media, as well as design enthusiasts and thought leaders will gather digitally at Frankfurt Fashion Week to address the technological challenges and opportunities of the future and to engage in controversial discussions from different perspectives over five days. The platform for this is provided by the digital FFW STUDIO at www.frankfurt.fashion with Future Talks, Deep Dives, Brand Experiences, Entertainment and numerous other elements. One thing is certain: In Industry 4.0, everything is connected - the future of fashion is digitized.

Fashion in the City

The FFW does take place mostly digitally at its premiere. But you can also get fashion inspiration by taking a stroll through downtown Frankfurt. Together with its partner cities, the city of Frankfurt has launched a poster campaign designed by students at the Academy of Fashion & Design. Three of the motifs will be displayed on advertising pillars: they represent the twin cities of Lyon, Guangzhou and Birmingham. On each poster there is a QR code through which the motifs appear on the smartphone. There, they will come to life through virtual reality. All posters can be seen at http://www.frankfurt.de/fashionglobal.

Art meets fashion

The Montez Family Art Association on the edge of Hafenpark is advancing as a center for the interplay of fashion and art during Fashion Week. Since Thursday, July 1, the joint exhibition "Palindrome" by fashion designer Nina Hollein and painter Philipp Schweiger has been a guest there. The former Frankfurt native and her twin brother not only combine fashion and painting, but also make a statement for sustainability. Hollein's garments are sewn from a variety of fabrics; in some cases you can see button strips and recognize the shape of a suit. Yet none of the fabric is bought - Hollein makes all the models from fabrics from her stash and archives. She has even recycled discarded suits from family members and created an elegant and unusual line from them. The dresses are framed by Schweiger's paintings, which show atmospheric, shadowy landscapes in shades of green and brown. The exhibition is on view until Sunday, July 25.

On Saturday, July 3, the Frankfurtstyleaward "Art in Fashion" will also be presented at the Kunstverein Familie Montez. At the fashion show, the winners from 2019 and 2020 will show their current collections, and the haute couture collection "Butterfly" by the designer Tara Katarina from Serbia, who is just 14 years old but has already won several awards, will also celebrate its world premiere. Workshop of the Future

Frankfurt Fashion Week is all about the future theme of sustainability. This is particularly evident on Tuesday, July 6: on this day the conference "The New European Bauhaus - Workshop of the Future" will take place, organised by Fashion Council Germany. More than 20 lectures and discussions will be held on the topics of sustainability, consumption, creativity and, of course, fashion. At 10 a.m., Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann, Detlef Braun, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt, Anita Tillmann, Managing Partner Premium Exhibitions, and Mandie Bienek, Chairwoman of Fashion Council Germany, will welcome the audience. Afterwards, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will give the opening speech - "The New European Bauhaus" is a project of the European Union. The speech will be streamed on the Internet, as will all of the conference's talks and panels. Go to https://www.neweuropeanbauhaus.fashion/schedule for all the info and registration.

Learn more about the fashion manufacturing process

For those who don't just want to stream, but want to learn more about fashion and sustainability on site, the "Fashion im Kiez" exhibition on Berger Straße is the place to be. From July 5 to 19, this window display in five stores will highlight five key areas along the production chain of a garment. Wunderwerk will be dealing with the subject of raw materials, while Weltladen Bornheim will be focusing on spinning, weaving and finishing. At Sonnylemon, the focus will be on garment production. At mi.na/Number7 you can learn more about transport and stationary trade. At Oxfam, Circular Fashion is the featured topic. All information can also be found at https://frankfurtnachhaltig.de/kampagnen/fasion-im-kiez-kampagnenseite-2-2/.

Sustainable fashion on the catwalk

On Wednesday, July 7, the Quartier Frau in Bornheim invites you to the Fair Fashion Aperitivo from 5 pm. Nine designers will present their sustainable summer collections there from 7.30 pm. The event is free, but those who want to attend must register at https://www.eventbrite.de/e/fair-fashion-show-im-quartier-frau-tickets-161861481047. Information on hygiene measures taken on site can also be found there.

Testing Fashion Knowledge

Fashion experts are in demand at the digital fashion quiz on Wednesday, July 7. But not only: The questions deal with ecological, economic and social aspects in the production of clothing. Participants can also learn more about the different textile labels. Those who come out on top will be rewarded: three teams will win certified prizes with the Green Button, the first state seal for sustainable textiles. All information about the quiz can be found at https://www.engagement-global.de/veranstaltung-detail/digitales-fashion-quiz.html, where you can also go to the online registration.

Fashion on Opernplatz

In the middle of Frankfurt, an open-air location is being created for Fashion Week: on Tuesday, July 6, Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann will open the Frankfurt Fashion Lounge on Opernplatz. Behind it is the entrepreneur Sevinc Yerli, who has been working in the fashion industry for over 20 years and also runs her own label Chili Bang Bang Fashion. The Frankfurt Fashion Lounge is an open air runway, presentation area and networking location all in one. On Wednesday, July 7, at 12.30 p.m., the finalists of the Frankfurtstyleaward will show their collections with which they convinced the jury. Until Thursday, 8 July, there will be many more fashion shows and discussion panels. All info and the program can be found at https://frankfurtfashionlounge.de/
