Concert introduction "before the museum" with Klaus Albert Bauer in the Great Hall

The Bruckner cycle with Sebastian Weigle and the Museum Orchestra is dedicated to the Sixth Symphony this season. Today, Bruckner's symphonies are part of the core of the concert repertoire; when they were written in the late 19th century, they had to struggle for recognition among audiences. "Interest and astonishment balanced each other out," one reads in contemporary reviews, but also that the composer was "stormily called out" here and there - the atmosphere in such concerts, usually in Vienna's dignified Golden Musikverein Hall, must have been peculiar. A Bohemian counterpoint is offered by Antonín Dvor?ák's Violin Concerto, composed almost simultaneously. It's hard to believe that this passionate and melodious work - played here by the violinist Yuri Revich, who is only 28 and trained in Moscow and Vienna - also had to overcome a number of hurdles before it was recognized.
