Concert introduction "before the museum" with Andreas Bomba in the Great Hall
A few years ago, the piece was on the pop hit parades: Gustav Holst's Planets. Especially the suggestive sound effects of this orchestral suite fascinated the audience. The piece is now on the programme of the Museum Concerts for the first time, conducted by the just 27-year-old Alexander Prior. The shooting star of the conducting scene was trained in St. Petersburg; from his second homeland he brings Mussorgsky's Night on the Bald Mountain with him, the effective symphonic poem that describes a witches' sabbath with seductive means. Niccolò Paganini, the devil's violinist, is not to be missed! Sergei Rachmaninov's variations on Paganini's Caprice No. 24, as virtuosic as they are expressive, challenge all pianists to show all their skills. Sergio Tiempo, from Argentina, a student of Martha Argerich among others, makes his debut at the museum.
