The Frankfurt Reading Festival "Frankfurt Reads a Book" illustrates how creative literary mediation can have an unimagined broad impact through the interaction of almost all of the city's public cultural institutions and many civically engaged people. Each year, a new book with a thematic connection to Frankfurt is selected to form the thematic basis for a dialogue between different cultural groups in the city's society.

This year, "Rosemarie. Des Deutschen liebbstes Kind." by Erich Kuby from October 24 - November 1, 2020, will be at the center of the festival.

The novel is ostensibly about the most famous high-class prostitute in the Federal Republic: Rosemarie Nitribitt With her expensive convertible, she was well-known in the business metropolis of Frankfurt. For a girl who had escaped several times from reformatories, she had made an astonishing fortune. Her murder in the autumn of 1957 caused a scandal: Did she know too much? Was it one of her clients from the circles of bosses and bankers? To this day, her killer has not been caught, and mishaps in the investigation, including the temporary disappearance of trial records, fueled rumors about what doomed her.

In his afterword, Kuby writes that his book is a literary "sugar-coated pill," that "Rosemarie and her profession are merely the dramaturgical vehicle" in his description of "a social condition." Christoph Pütthoff & Natalya Karmazin is on the trail of the "cognitive process" that Kuby wanted to set in motion with his novel.

Christoph Pütthoff has been a permanent ensemble member at Schauspiel Frankfurt since the 2009/10 season, where he has worked with Karin Henkel and others. Karin Henkel, Barrie Kosky, Oliver Reese, Andreas Kriegenburg, Jan-Christoph Gockel and Anselm Weber, among others.

NATALYA KARMAZIN is one of Frankfurt's most renowned musicians. In 2009 and 2019 she received the working scholarship Jazz of the city of Frankfurt. With the Karma Jazz Group, which she founded, she performs at international festivals.
