St. Bartholomew's Cathedral and the city of Frankfurt have been closely linked since their earliest beginnings. Once the church of an important imperial monastery, several times the coronation site of kings and emperors, and since 1830 the endowed church of the city of Frankfurt and the parish church of the citizens of Frankfurt, St. Bartholomew's Cathedral not only set standards as the tallest building in the city until the 20th century. And even today it is much more than a historical monument or a tourist attraction. For Frankfurt citizens of whatever denomination, the words with which Friedrich Stoltze described their relationship to the cathedral in 1867 still apply: "It is sacred, high and worthy to us".
Dr. Johannes zu Eltz, a doctor of law, theologian and priest, covers a wide range of responsibilities as pastor of the cathedral parish of St. Bartholomew and as city dean. Text source and more information about this event: http://www.frankfurter-buergerstiftung.de/node/2513
