Freya Ridings on tour in Germany
Freya Ridings was a guest at the Reeperbahn Festival in late September, and it's fair to say: The petite Englishwoman blew everyone away with her delicate piano playing and intense voice, giving new meaning to the term ballad. No wonder the Londoner decided to launch her career with two live records - a format that seems to have fallen into oblivion a bit. But Ridings knows how to put all the emotion in the world into her music, especially on stage. That she's now getting the success she deserves with her studio recordings is evident from a look at the U.K. charts: her single "Lost Without You," a downright classic pop ballad about an intense moment that changed her life, just entered the Top 10 and tops several streaming charts. She recorded and released the song on her own, and after a bit of a delay, it has finally reached the ears and brains of many. No wonder, the young woman managed to do something wonderful with it: out of her personal feelings and sensibilities, she managed to create a universally applicable, hugely emotive song that is not only musically one of the most beautiful in years, but also lyrically strikes a chord with everyone. Ridings is already being compared to the greats, to Adele and Birdy, to Tori Amos and Elton John. In fact, she has a little bit of all of them: with the latter she connects her piano style, with Amos the raw force of expression, with Birdy the intensity and with Adele the sheer beauty of the songs. At the moment Freya Ridings is hopefully working hard on her studio debut album. In any case, one of Britain's rising female musicians is coming to tour with us next March.
