An opera as part of the May Festival in the Halle An opera in five pictures / Stephan Peiffer (b. 1985)
According to motifs from the life and thought of the German resistance fighter and theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906 - 1945)
Libretto: Theresita Colloredo and David Gravenhorst
Premiere of 2nd version. Version
In German. Resistance, a theme of timeless relevance and socio-political importance. "Vom Ende der Innschuld" tells of desperate people who fear for their lives in distress. When a supposed savior appears and promises redemption, everyone enthusiastically follows him. But when he implements his plans by force, doubts are raised... The 1st version of the opera, premiered in Hamburg in 2013, has been re-edited for the performance at Schlachthof Wiesbaden. Composer Stephan Peiffer draws on musical styles from different eras, from ancient psalms and Gregorian-like chorales to classical and late Romantic sounds, children's songs and marches. The libretto quotes texts by Dietrich Bonhoeffer and from the Bible. Michiel Dijkema is the winner of the 2005 European Opera Direction Prize and the director of the current Wiesbaden production of Wagner's "Flying Dutchman". This time he places the orchestra at the centre - and thus on the stage. The stage action divides the audience by a footbridge, opening up different perspectives on the theme of the piece. Patron:
Volker Bouffier, Prime Minister of the State of Hesse Text source and further information about this event: http://www.schlachthof-wiesbaden.de/programmdetails/items/vom-ende-der-unschuld.html
