Frustration:
Since the band's formation in 2002, the Frenchmen have blossomed into one of the most important formations there is in post punk, cold wave and garage. Surely their current album "Empires of Shame" reminds of Joy Division, Killing Joke, New Order and Wire in parts, but direct comparisons are rather out of place - their sound is too idiosyncratic, bursting with energy and verve and creates exactly the right balance between modernity and classicism. So it's no wonder that "Frustration" have long held a cult status in France and fill large halls.
Kill Your Boyfriend:
Optically borrowing from The Velved Underground, the Venice duo, formed in 2011, create an energetic, dark, angry post-punk between electro, wave, and shoegaze.
The Work:
Dresden-based music group Die Arbeit (formerly Leo hört Rauschen) create a pleasing monotony à la "German American Friendship" or "Joy Division" with reduced guitars, beats on point, German-language poetry and propaganda. Manufactured as if in a workshop, the quartet installs its own social critique in the midst of a capitalist shambles. An oscillating revival experience between building up and tearing down.
