A production of the Tonsport Youth Club
Music creates movement and vice versa, movement can create music. Music and sport, two seemingly mutually exclusive disciplines, come together. The Tonsport Jugendclub explores the interface of physicality, movement and sound production. To this end, the players develop a sound space that is explored musically and athletically.
Sporting actions, such as jumping rope, playing with different balls, and handling sports equipment of all kinds, are examined for their sonority and condensed into compositional islands of sound through team play rules. Group situations, such as a joint choreography for synchronized swimming, alternate with individual solo passages, such as an air pump solo and zipper duet.
Electronically alienated sounds of ping-pong balls, foosball tables and sounds from swimming gyms alternate with rhythmically choreographed body percussion or the play with basketballs. The participants are at the same time composers, musicians and performers, athletes who also go to their physical limits while competing for the title of the best sound.
