Contrary to what people outside Brazil think, the samba is not the country's dominant musical style. For that is undoubtedly the forró, a folk dance music that suits the soul of the rural and small-town population. The many rural refugees also took it with them to the metropolises, so that today Forró is present in all regions of Brazil and is played everywhere by ever new musicians.
Geraldinho Lins is one of the most successful musicians of forró. He comes from the state of Pernambuco, where this genre originated and which is still considered its center. Forró is also becoming increasingly well-known and popular in Europe, so that Lins now regularly tours several countries. He composes many of his songs himself in all the popular dance genres of the Northeast: xote, baião, caboclinho, frevo.
