Rhineland-Palatinate has the honour and beautiful task of co-hosting German Unity Day with its state capital Mainz this year.
The celebrations will be held under the motto "Together we are Germany", because it was this idea that connected people in East and West in 1989 and made reunification possible.
Not only the top officials of the constitutional bodies will come together for the celebrations, but all citizens are invited to a large citizens' festival in downtown Mainz on October 2 and 3.
The hosts expect around 500,000 visitors to attend. It is to be a special festival, as diverse, creative and modern as Rhineland-Palatinate and its fun-loving people. In addition to information, sports and hands-on activities as well as high-quality stage programs, all federal states and the federal constitutional bodies will present themselves.
The celebration will end on the evening of 3. October with a final staging on the Rhine, with plenty of light, animation and music, impressively staging German history from the perspective of Rhineland-Palatinate.
