Military music show has been thrilling fans on the Loreley for years - now the goosebump event is coming to other regions of Germany

Traditional bagpipe music, martial drum rolls and spectacular dances: The "Deutschland Military Tattoo" is marching again! Hundreds of participants, musicians, horses, the most beautiful bagpipe and marching tunes, traditional music and dances, as well as fireworks.

At the same time, the event is anything but dusty - the team has succeeded in recent years to make the event popular with you younger audience and thus set a trend.

Fans of marching bands as well as military and symphonic brass music are in the right place. Classical marches are just as much on the sheet music as well-known rock, - pop and Schlager melodies. Musical director in the arena is Major Jason Griffiths, who has already conducted the band of Queen Elizabeth II's bodyguard and in 2016 was also responsible for the musical direction of the largest event of its kind, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

At first, non-initiates might be puzzled by the word "tattoo". But in this case, it doesn't mean needle art on bare skin. In the days of the Landsknechte, "tap toe" meant nothing more than that the sutlers turned the tap upward, and that meant, "Tap toe!" Nothing more was served, the Landsknechte had to go to their quarters for the night's rest. "Tap toe," then, in the military sense, meant nothing more than "Taps!"

In more recent times, it became "Tattoo," the name for military musical events featuring bands and marching formations.

The idea of the "Deutschland Military Tattoo" came to producer Ulrich Lautenschläger during a visit to London for the traditional birthday parade for the Queen. He was thrilled by the horses, the uniforms, the music and especially the young audience. "I wanted to bring this feeling to Germany as well," says Lautenschläger. He first realized his idea six years ago on the Loreley. Together with the best musicians of the genre, he has since been able to place his "Tattoos" internationally in the top tier of military music shows.

Thanks to the successes also on Schalke, the Loreley and in the Frankfurt Festhalle with tens of thousands of visitors, the "Deutschland Military Tattoo" has already achieved great fame. Internationally successful marching bands from different nations will now present their musical skills for the first time in Kaltenberg - with colourful uniforms and sophisticated choreographies. Together they pull out all the stops of symphonic brass music and create a unique listening experience. Yet for all the military pomp, grace must not be lacking: So twirling dancers show the so-called "Highland Dances".
