Eric Ghoste aka Ghostemane grows up in West Palm Beach after the family moved from New York to Florida shortly before his birth. Through his father, he is introduced to the classic rock brand of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Van Halen, later joined by punk bands like Green Day and Lagwagon. The father is authoritarian, patronizes Ghoste and his four years younger brother, there is no internet in the house. Ghoste is supposed to play football, almost joins the Marines on his father's advice. He only comes into contact with other music in the classical way, through friends' magazines. He has CDs burned of his favorites. After receiving a guitar as a gift at the age of 14, he begins to teach himself to play. However, his dream of becoming a rock star is not encouraged by his father, even though his grades in school are above average. After high school, Ghoste goes to college and joins a hardcore band called Nemesis while working at his call center. He earns well, but knows that an office job is out of the question for him. When Ghostemane is 17, his father dies of an accidental painkiller overdose. The family breaks up: the mother returns to New York, but Ghostemane stays in Florida. He uses his new freedom to pursue a career in music. He creates his alter ego Ghostemane. He does not allow himself to be pigeonholed or defined by conventional forms. In addition to hard rock and punk, he has a preference for extreme metal. Bands like Deicide, Carcass and Mayhem are the beginning, then he discovers metalcore with representatives like Atreyu, Beneath The Sky and As I Lay Dying. At some point hip hop comes along, first Dr. Dre's "Chronic", later Dirty South-Crews, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, the Three 6 Mafia and Outkast, but also Jedi Mind Tricks, the Hieroglyphics, more experimental acts like SpaceGhostPurrp or Death Grips. He is infected and from now on creates his own beats. Since 2014, he has been self-releasing his songs on the net. Ghostemane develops his style, combining flows with melodic vocals. He draws inspiration from several sources, he reads a lot, deals with mathematics, physics/astrophysics and philosophy. But he is also interested in comics and mangas. Through TV documentaries about Aleister Crowley he works himself into the topic of occultism, from then on his texts are often influenced by it. The internet enables him to live out his productivity. In regular rhythm he releases tracks, EPS and complete albums, his live performances are attended by more and more fans. In the summer of 2016 he moves to Los Angeles and makes more contacts, and in 2017 he becomes known to a larger audience through his participation in "1000 Rounds" by his Florida colleague Pouya.
