Chronicle of Current Events

Self-determination and human freedom are the goals Ludwig van Beethoven professes in his "Eroica". That is why the Musikfest is dedicating an extensive concert evening to the idea of freedom: In three concerts and a conversation, we give the floor to composers and performers who have made their art a political avowal and who stand up for peace and freedom.

Gidon Kremer is also an artist who speaks out socially: The most dangerous thing is to remain indifferent, is his credo, which always seems to drive him to make his art a confession. In 1988 Luigi Nono composed for him "La lontananza nostalgica utopica futura" for violin and eight-track tape - loosely translated: "The longing distance of utopian future". "Wandering is the goal," is how Kremer describes the core of the piece - in keeping not least with Beethoven's conviction that "freedom alone, going on, is the purpose in the world of art as in all great creation." With the kind support of the Society of Friends of the Alte Oper Frankfurt
