Dieter steals the bread rolls in the house, Hanne Knoop earns a juicy extra income by subletting, landlord butcher master Tramsen cauterizes cat food - claims Meta Boldt. The gossip addict causes nothing but trouble among the neighbours with her malicious gossip. Day in, day out, she spies on the residents, gets what news she picks up wrong, and everything goes haywire. The chaos in the rumor mill reaches its climax when Meta Boldt starts haunting the apartment building to find out who is returning home in the middle of the night from the ball of the rabbit breeding club. Who is the pretty Heike, who has moved in with Mrs. Knoop on the second floor and who easily manages to wrap her admirers around her little finger? And what about master butcher Tramsen, who tries to get on Heike's nerves with a permanent sausage? But also Mr. Brummer, retired tax inspector, his nephew Dieter and a certain Mr. Seefeldt give Meta Boldt all kinds of reasons for the wildest speculations. In the end, the peace of the house is restored, because the tenants agree: the chatterbox can no longer land with them with her stairwell gossip, they can no longer be played off against each other by the woman with the loose mouth with her concocted half-truths.
