Gov't Mule are coming back to Europe and there is reason to celebrate. The quartet, led by vocalist and guitarist Warren Haynes, have confirmed that they will be playing an exclusive club show in Frankfurt, a city that has not been on their itinerary for recent tours.
Reason enough, then, for all fans in Hesse to prepare themselves for a concentrated pack of guitar rock from one of the world's best guitarists and his laid-back, experienced, powerful and versatile band. The focus will be on songs from the latest album, "Revolution Come. Revolution Go", on which Gov't Mule deal with the current developments in the United States. The foundation is the harmonic framework of the blues, but the influences come from all American styles.
There are moments of rock, blues, funk, soul, jazz and country to be discovered. Guitarist Haynes, bassist Jorgen Carlsson, keyboardist Danny Louis and drummer Matt Abts dig deep and bring it all to the surface on the new record. "In the '60s and '70s, there was room for so many styles under the umbrella called rock. We've always taken a leaf out of that, but 'Revolution Come. Revolution Go' is probably our most diverse record ever."
Great songwriting and the usual virtuosic improvisational skills make this unusual record another highlight in Gov't Mule's long career, and of course the tracks aren't true songs of the band until played live.
And as always, with Gov't Mule's vast repertoire, there will most definitely be quite a few old songs and some of those irresistible cover versions on the program.
