"American Idiot" by Green Day was one of the world's best-selling albums in 2005 and became the soundtrack of an entire generation. Winning a Grammy for Best Rock Album, "American Idiot" has sold around 15 million copies to date. Green Day, who were even inducted into the Rock`n`Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, described the concept album in the style of "The Whos Tommy" as a "Punk Rock Opera".
The musical adaptation premiered in New York in 2010 and can now be seen in Germany for the very first time. The soundtrack of this rousing Sow consists of hits from the "American Idiot" album like "Wake Me Up When September Ends", "Holiday" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" as well as additional songs from the follow-up release "21st Century Breakdown" ("21 Guns"), B-sides and the previously unreleased "When it`s time". At the Batschkapp, the legendary Green Day songs will be played for the first time in the German translation by Titus Hoffmann.
From the search for the meaning of life in a post-9/11 world. The story of Green Day's "American Idiot" is based on the idea of the concept album of the same name. Three disillusioned young men leave their small home town and search for an alternative to their frustrating and deadlocked life situation in different ways. Issues such as drug addiction, unwanted pregnancy, war and the influence of the media are addressed in the musical, which acts as a mouthpiece for American youth through its modern punk rock music and sometimes very aggressive and denouncing lyrics.
