The Schirn Bigband - that's 23 musicians who passionately pursue a common goal: to bring rich big band sound to the stage. Since 2019, under the direction of Gernot Dechert, the band presents not only pieces by well-known composers from the classical big band repertoire, but also sophisticated arrangements from the areas of Latin, funk and soul, as well as original compositions by Gernot Dechert.
Musical changeability at the same time high playing level is for many years the standard for numerous performances mainly in the Rhine-Main area, but also on guest performances outside the region, including in Hamburg and Luxembourg, the big band has delighted its audience. Based at the Frankfurt Music School, rehearsals are held regularly at Frankfurt's Schirn, the band's namesake venue. Founded more than twenty years ago as an ensemble of the music school by Ralph Schmidt, the jazz orchestra is considered their flagship.
The evening event starts at 8 pm with free admission
The festival market opens at 12 pm for you and offers daily live music of various genres. Numerous bands from Frankfurt and the surrounding area provide a relaxed atmosphere at the market already at noon.
