In autumn 2018, parallel to the Großauheimer Rochusmarkt, on 29 and 30. September, the legendary Großauheimer Dampftage will once again take place.
The event around the Museum Großauheim and in the adjacent technology park is a national event of industrial culture Rhine-Main with living steam technology and hands-on activities for families with children of all ages. Demonstrations of large steam engines powering hand-crafted machines by the Förderverein Dampfmaschinenmuseum e.V., Steam engine models and steam toys, steam tractor and train rides for children show the changes in the living and working world 100 years ago.
Numerous members of the Förderverein Dampfmaschinenmuseum e.V. will again be on duty around the clock as machinists and boiler attendants, along with city employees and volunteers. Technical developments in the process of change in the past and today can be experienced with all the senses. Among the exhibitors are guests from all over Germany and the Netherlands. Johan van Loon from Waspick in the Netherlands will set the tone with his steam organ and with "Hendrina" - also from the Netherlands - this time a gem among the large mobile steam locomobiles can also be admired during a round trip in Hanau.
The museum's educational programme offers numerous spontaneous hands-on activities as well as workshops on the subject of steam technology for all age groups. Just like large steam engines, small steam engine models and miniature mechanical workshops - unique rarities - will be put into operation using compressed air and hot air to illustrate how a steam engine works.
In view of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus in 2019, Thonet GmbH from Frankenberg will demonstrate its special wood-bending technique, which is still used today to work the universally famous café chairs.
The exciting technical program will be complemented with offers for games, fun and exercise in cooperation with the Social Services Department of the City of Hanau and the Spielmobil Augustinchen.
The Museum Großauheim, which has been refurbished to current museum standards, presents the changes in technology and the world of work from the beginnings of industrialisation to high technology made in Hanau. The museum has attractive special exhibition areas, a versatile workroom for museum education and spectacular steam engines that are put into operation during events.
A sustainable overall museum educational concept with courses and workshops is currently being added to the versatile themes of the house, which also displays animal sculpture by August Gaul and glass paintings by August Peukert, the modules of which can also be used during the year in the ongoing museum educational program and for school events of all kinds.
