As one of 18 siblings, Habib Koité grew up in a highly musical extended family and taught himself to play the guitar in early childhood. His uncle recognized the boy's great talent and encouraged him to study at the Institut National des Arts (INA) in Bamako, the Malian capital. His successful graduation was quickly followed by his first concert bookings - the musical career of Habib Koité began.
With charisma, passion and incredible stage presence, Habib Koité and his band Bamada succeed in making the often exotic genre of world music accessible to a wide audience. With more than 1.500 played concerts they inspire their fans worldwide. In their music, Malian nuances merge with soul, blues, flamenco reminiscences and modern Afro groove to create a new, very own sound, carried by warm voice and virtuoso guitar playing.
