Controversial - rightly so. As with every Terrence Malick film, this one has been accused of illustrating esoteric tendencies on the part of the director. Since esotericism is quite high in the ranking of our enemy images, we have put the film back from the Hafenkino Open Air June selection - to have seen it ourselves first. To now follow the aspects that make the film nevertheless quite delightful: it is indeed a beguiling flood of images by cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (Gravity, Birdman, The Revenant) - too beautiful not to have it in the program. And last but not least, we bow to the seductively oppulent cast: Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Holly Hunter. who can say no to that.
