Soy Nero. Director Rafi Pitts, who made his unforgettable, regime-critical film Time of Wrath in Iran as recently as 2010, has since been banned from working there. After the screening of Time of Wrath at the Berlinale, he did not return to his home country, but took sides in exile with imprisoned colleagues, especially Jafar Panahi. He hates walls, he replied when asked why he was now tackling the US-Mexican border with Soy Nero. The feature film is based on the true story of Daniel Torres, who followed the US government's promise that all Mexicans who entered the country illegally and went to war in the US Army would be rewarded with a green card afterwards. Analogous to the real-life template, in the film young Nero gets into trouble in Iraq that goes beyond the madness of war.Trump's announcement that one of his first acts in office will be to deport up to three million "illegals" (and take care of "the rest"when the wall is completed) makes the film all the more timely in a sad way.Text source and more information about this event at:http://www.hafen2.net/
