der grosse tyrann is a feminist performance collective by Liliane Koch and Maude Hélène Vuilleumier that humorously explores female self-dramatization. In AVE MARIA, the great tyrant embarks on a search for the most sacred of female (pre-)images, the most portrayed woman in the world: Mary. To do so, they examine their own behavioural patterns. Hail Mary, full of grace, blessed art thou among women. You are inscribed in me western Christian woman. You are the role model I never wanted, the mother I never asked for. From you I got my endless empathy, my capacity for acquiescence, and that beguiling smile with a tilted head. But have you ever laughed, heartily that is?
