Haley Heynderickx didn't exactly grow up in a musically inclined family. But one night she had a dream in which she was the female version of Jimi Hendrix - probably analogous to her Flemish surname - and from that point on she was eager to give music a try herself. However, in her small hometown of Forest Grove in the US state of Oregon, there was only one teacher of bluegrass. Which worked out wonderfully for her, as it awakened Heynderickx's appreciation for country music and acoustic elements along with her already existing fascination with the blues. After she began attending college in Portland, Oregon, she began writing more and more original songs that she combined with folk music. Drawing heavily from the folk, rock and pop music of the 60s and 70s, Heynderickx's tunes are inspired by artists such as Bob Dylan, Nick Drake but also local Portland musicians with whom she has performed. Her rather conflicted feelings of fear and at the same time love for the 21st century are reflected in her haunting vocals and vivid lyrics. She is a young songwriter and thus has devoted herself mostly to themes about identity, one's ego and the subconscious, which gives her great relief herself as the voices in her head find music the best form of expression. As a solo songwriter, her biggest goal is for this tour to be emotional, intimate, and also a little "merciful" - challenging her listeners to question things like their own self-purpose, self-worth, and unfulfilled desires. Her songs are full of humor and longing, but at the same time, that humor can easily turn into a reminder of one's own mortality. The re-release of her EP includes two bonus tracks, and will also be released with a book of poetry she wrote herself, available exclusively on the tour - in the hope that no one from her hometown will be able to read it. (She's very shy about her writing, because it's pure and can't be hidden behind music). It's difficult to squeeze Heynderickx's music into one genre; she herself describes her sounds as "Doom Folk".
