He is considered one of the most important jazz musicians of the last 50 years, celebrated as a constant innovator and impetus, an artist who brought new colors and a new, wider audience to jazz. The jazz pianist will show that Herbie Hancock is still full of energy and drive in his 83rd year on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, from 8 p.m. in Frankfurt. Together with his band, he accepts the invitation to the Great Hall of the Alte Oper as part of his large-scale European Summer Tour 2022 and presents his current program.
"One of the most important realizations is, life knows no limits," says Hancock. "And it takes courage to step out of your comfort zone. Keeping that courage throughout your life, pushing into new areas, that's what keeps you young." With this attitude, the pianist has dedicated his life to hard bop and funk jazz, influenced acoustic as well as electronic jazz, influenced R'n'B, but also made a name for himself with his free improvisations. The Chicago-born artist has received 14 Grammy awards and one Oscar, and also holds six honorary doctorates. Over the course of his six-decade musical career, Hancock has been a member of the Miles Davis Quintet, among others, and has worked not only with the greats of jazz but also with numerous stars of rock and pop such as Sting, Santana, Annie Lennox, Christina Aguilera and Pink.
