Georgette, an elderly apartment owner, lives in Paris with Berthe, her housekeeper, and her two lodgers, Jacqueline and Janine. Four women under one roof and all of them have one problem: they lack a suitable man. Jacqueline, a painter, needs a male nude model to complete a painting for a competition on the theme of "Feast at Spartacus". Janine, a music teacher, is looking for students for piano lessons. Georgette can no longer stand having two female artists as lodgers and wants a new tenant, as quiet as possible, while Berthe is looking for a husband.
What's the quickest way to solve the man problem? With an advertisement, of course! Promptly four gentlemen come forward. But because the ladies don't know anything about each other's ads, the interested parties - how could it be otherwise - each get to the wrong one.
