The musical motto of the formation Intracult is: To explore exciting music from different cultures in order to interpret it in contemporary form - fused with jazz, funk and rock elements. In doing so, Intracult has created its own sound and style of interpretation, which on the one hand establishes a sonic connection between the different traditions, but at the same time allows their characteristic features to be recognised. The current repertoire presents music of Irish, African, Arabic, Cuban and Spanish origin.
If the big band is the cruise ship of jazz, the Concert Band is the speedboat: in the line-up of 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, 4 saxophones, vocals and rhythm section, it can sound like a big band or a combo. The HfMDK Concert Band has been in existence since 2016 and evolved from the HfMDK Big Band. Under the direction of Jens Hunstein, it will sound a jazz-specific repertoire as well as some arrangements by students.
