Fake News Haydn!
"Whodunit" - in the genre of crime fiction, this is a popular concept. "Who has done it?", that is "Who has done it?" In the genre of classical music, the search in this case is not for a murderer, but rather for a composer. Who wrote the popular Haydn oboe concerto? The answer "Joseph Haydn" is just a false lead there - Fake News. This name was written by a Dresden librarian in the mid-19th century on an anonymous manuscript of an oboe concerto so good, so large and musically substantial, that it could not have been a minor master. But neither was Haydn, research is certain. Was it Mozart? Beethoven? An unknown person by the name of Ignaz Malzat? As long as we don't know any better, the name Haydn will remain for the time being; the music has his quality after all. Incidentally, when Johannes Brahms composed his famous "Variations on a theme by Haydn", he picked out a particularly striking melody, a chorale - which is now, unfortunately, not by Haydn either, of all people.
