.Multiverse Mozart
Spectacular timbres it offers, but one hears it all too rarely: The organ in the Great Hall of the Alte Oper leads into a fascinating parallel universe. "I translate everything into music that I experience, that I read," is how Peter Eötvös describes his working method. The Hungarian composer and conductor, who has had a second home with the hr-Sinfonieorchester since last season, always feels inspired by technology and science. "The theory of parallel worlds, of the multiverse, particularly fascinates me," he says. And he invites the audience into such a parallel universe with his new, spectacularly dimensioned organ concerto, which he has composed on behalf of the Elbphilharmonie. The soloist is Latvian Iveta Apkalna, one of the few star organists of our day; she is the newly appointed titular organist of the new Hamburg Konzerthaus. A universe all her own, parallel to no other: Mozart - with whom Peter Eötvös also enters into a dialogue that is entertaining and not at all scientific or technical. "A cheerful piece with some fragments of Mozart", that is his "Da capo for orchestra", which receives its German premiere here.
