Breaking down stylistic boundaries and combining a hard sound with poppy moments: That's the approach of Southfield/Michigan's I Prevail. Formed as recently as 2013, the band has already had a checkered history, with numerous musicians coming and going - each taking a direct influence on I Prevail's overall sound. The band's biggest success to date was a bold cover of the Taylor Swift song "Blank Space," which climbed to No. 9 on the U.S. rock charts and has been viewed online nearly 50 million times to date. Their first EP, "Heart vs. Mind", released in 2014, followed the Taylor Swift cover up to #4 on the US Hard Rock chart and #6 on the US Alternative chart, and was followed by their debut album "Lifelines" in 2016, which rose to #15 on the US Billboard chart and also charted high in Australia and Canada. Now, following further band reshuffles, "Trauma" followed on March 29th, the second album that saw I Prevail wash up high on the charts worldwide. Following their furiously sold-out club show in June, I Prevail will come back to Germany for five shows in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne between March 1 and March 13, 2020.
When I Prevail formed in late 2013, the four original members Brian Burkheiser and Eric Vanlerberghe (both vocals), Steve Menoian (guitar, bass) and Lee Runestad (drums) had one goal above all: To construct hard music beyond all pigeonholes. Drawing equal parts influence from post-hardcore, metalcore, hard rock, and pop-punk, you'll find as many board-hard moments of screams and growls in their music as you'll experience trusting, pop-influenced sing-along choruses.
Just over a year after forming, I Prevail released their first EP, "Heart vs. Mind," which was the first time they had publicly come forward with a song in a clever move: Their very first single was a cover of Taylor Swift's hit "Blank Space," which achieved great national success; the first EP was received with corresponding enthusiasm, and I Prevail embarked on several major U.S. tours before the release of a debut album, first alongside Hollywood Undead, then headlining, accompanied by The White Noise and My Enemies & I.
