Hildegard von Bingen - abbess, seer, poet and mystic from the Rhine, was one of the first female doctors and one of the first female composers whose work is historically documented. She was the head of two monasteries on the Rhine, and in this capacity distinguished herself as a courageous builder and manager who spared no confrontation with the nobility and clergy when it came to asserting her interests and those of her nuns. And yet the connection of music with the divine, her visions and insights into natural history determined her existence. Her holistic view of things, in the face of a world perceived as too complex, may be one reason why her person has received much attention in recent years. She is undoubtedly considered the spiritual icon of the Middle Ages, was canonized in 2012, and serves feminist theologians, esotericists, and meaning-seekers of all stripes as a projection screen and reference point for conscious living. But does she rightly bear the title of the great mystic, or did she just have severe migraines, as scholars suggest?
The first description of a woman's sexual climax was penned by her, but where did she get this knowledge? A group of five ensemble members now trace this great woman of the Middle Ages from the perspective of five contemporary seekers of meaning.

Katja Brunner has written six plays. She has an intensive collaboration with director Marco Štorman, who is working in Mainz for the first time.
