Franz Schubert Winterreise D 911
This past season, visitors to the "One Day in Life" concert project were able to experience that familiar works can have a whole new effect in a foreign venue: One of the most powerful experiences was the performance of Mozart's Requiem in the tram depot of the Verkehrsgesellschaft Frankfurt am Main (VGF), an extraordinary setting that tells of farewells and departures, but also of the uncertainties of a journey. A place of emotional impact, no less fitting for the centrepiece of this year's Musikfest. For good reason, then, the Alte Oper is setting off with the audience to another place: In close proximity to Frankfurt's main train station, where trams and ICEs pass through the field of vision, in the heart of the bustle of a major city, the experience of farewell can be experienced first-hand. Ian Bostridge, one of the most important tenors of our time, will be performing the central work of the Musikfest right there, at the VGF Betriebshof Gutleut. For him, too, it will be a special experience, especially as he has a great passion for "Winterreise", which "I have performed perhaps more often than any other piece in my repertoire, which I am always trying to sing in new ways, to present to the audience and to understand myself."
Venue: VGF Betriebshof Gutleut (access via Heilbronner Straße)
