(thk) These handpicked, elaborate, multimedia events are likely to be among the most exciting and extraordinary productions of 2022 in many ways: The successful singer IMANY (hits: "You Will Never Know", "Don't Be So Shy") combines music, dance, visual elements, high fashion and sensational lighting design in her "Voodoo Cello" spectacle to create a unique event! Hits of pop history will be performed, starting with Jacques Brel, Cat Stevens, Madonna, Elton John, Black and Ed Sheeran - all in new arrangements, performed by eight cellists; in this way, the artist wants to overcome the boundary between serious and entertainment music. Tickets for the exceptional concerts, which promise to be a feast for the eyes and ears, are available in advance at prices between 30 and 50 euros (plus fees).
"Voodoo Cello" (Universal) is the name of the third album by the musician, who was born in southern France on April 5, 1979. As a tall woman with an athletic figure, Nadia Mladjao first made a career as a mannequin and model for Calvin Klein. However, the singing beauty found her calling in music. Her debut album (2010) was already showered with praise. "A wonderful folk-soul debut," judged 'Elle'. Because of her deep, soft voice, the performer reminds of her role model, the African-American vocalist/pianist Nina Simone. From Imany's second bestseller comes "Don't Be So Shy," as a remix the summer hit of 2016. This cemented her status as one of the most successful singers in France. The third CD offered the mother of two the chance to reinvent herself artistically. Instead of a pop band, she is accompanied by cellos, as these instruments are reminiscent of female bodies in their shape. To bring her current album to the stage, the Parisian-by-choice assembled an international creative team: Choreographer/dancer Thierry Thieû Niang is from Vietnam, while his colleague Gladys Gambie and lighting designer Jérémy Bargues are French. Eugenio Recuenco, responsible for the visuals, is from Spain. He has caused a sensation as a painter/photographer, counts Yves Saint Laurent, Lavazza, Freixenet among his clients, and directed the Rammstein video "Mein Herz brennt". The outfits were designed by Olivier Rousteing, art director of the Balmain fashion house. These experts ensure that Imany is opulently staged live. As a multicultural voodoo priestess, she tells her own story through the selected song repertoire in the form of the mystical journey of a woman with miraculous powers. The path on which she must conquer her own demons in order to achieve inner peace begins in darkness and ends in light. Such a fateful frame story with a positive outcome fits the pseudonym of this woman: Imany means faith/hope in Swahili!
