Ingelheim Christmas Market at the Burgkirche
Since 2005, a more traditional Christmas market with innovative elements has been held in the Ober-Ingelheim district amidst the historic fortified walls at the Burgkirche. Traditional in the sense that what is offered for sale is not what is already available for purchase at other markets throughout the year anyway.
This market, with its unique ambience, is a counterpoint to the metropolitan and very commercial markets in Mainz, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt. A permanent background sound system with Christmas carols in "department store style" is deliberately dispensed with here. Unique is the concept to offer the Christmas market visitors in inhospitable weather shelter in so-called "Verweilkrippen" (covered stalls in the shape of a crib).

Crafts from the region, mulled wine made exclusively from red wines from Ingelheim and a balanced range of culinary delights create a homely atmosphere in stalls decorated mainly with natural materials. A nostalgic children's carousel, campfire romance, children's and puppet theatre, Advent cafés in the parish hall of the Burgkirche and the gymnasium of the TuS 1848 Ober-Ingelheim as well as Christmas tree sales complete the extensive offer.
A varied supporting programme with numerous musical contributions from schools, clubs and music groups from Ingelheim and neighbouring communities will be presented on the magnificent open-air stage and in the castle church, which is well worth seeing. Last but not least, by decorating the stage with Christmas trees specially decorated by ten kindergartens, all six Ingelheim districts contribute to an atmospheric Christmas market that is unparalleled in the region.
