The message from the fashion and cosmetics industry is clear: "Women, you're running out, getting old, too fat and have too much hair." To escape this stigma, even elementary school girls slap so much mascara on their faces that they fall over sitting forward at their school desks. And the eighty-year-old senior walks his canary-yellow hippie jeans that you wonder, "Is this man having a stroke or a seizure?" True enough. Much of what we wear is unwearable, only scares the cat and stimulates the dog's kidney function.
It's all threaded by the fashion conglomerates embroidered to fill their Gucci bags with our dough. The chemicals in our shoes make us sick, the pineapple diet makes us inedible. But with wheatgrass smoothie in hand, we keep rushing after every beauty trend. And we end up beautiful. Beautifully stupid. But when we think about the nine-year-old seamstress in Bangladesh, we really shouldn't even look in the mirror anymore.
