The International May Festival is the cultural highlight of the city of Wiesbaden every year. Theatres and ensembles from all over the world will be guests in May 2018 under the artistic direction of Staatstheater artistic director Uwe Eric Laufenberg. Baroque and modern, opera, dance and drama, guest performance or gala evening, whether from Vienna or Berlin, from Sweden or China - the Hessian State Theatre presents the most interesting productions and artists. From 30 April to 31 May 2018, the International May Festival will take place at the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden under the artistic direction of Uwe Eric Laufenberg. The festival program with over 50 events is themed from Verdi's "Un Ballo in maschera": "Un sogno lusinghier - A dream full of lust and joy". World-renowned singers, renowned acting ensembles and top-class dance companies are guests in Wiesbaden. Four of the most sought-after Verdi singers can be experienced at the 2018 May Festival: Adina Aaron as Amelia, Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Ulrica, Arnold Rutkowski is Riccardo and Vladislav Sulminsky from the Mariinsky Theatre St. Petersburg is Renato. Star tenor Klaus Florian Vogt, acclaimed throughout the world, takes the title role in Uwe Eric Laufenberg's new production of "Tannhäuser" under the musical direction of GMD Patrick Lange. In Donizetti's "Der Liebestrank", Patrick Carfizzi from the New York Met is back as Dulcamara. In "Arabella", Richard Strauss's last great popular success, the title role features Maria Bengtsson and Ryan McKinny as Mandryka and Katharina Konradi and Thomas Blondelle as Zdenka and Matteo. Stephan Peiffer's Bonhoeffer opera "Vom Ende der Innschuld" tells of resistance, a theme of timeless relevance and socio-political importance, and of desperate people fighting for their honor and for their lives in distress. In addition, the Wiesbaden Visitor Packages in cooperation with Wiesbaden Marketing are new to the program this year. The all-inclusive packages include hotel accommodation, admission to selected opera gala performances and other little surprises. For the first time, the International May Festival Café, "No Exitus", will open from April 30 to 31. May 2018, and will remain open throughout the festival season to provide food and beverages for night owls. The cooperation with the Caligari FilmBühne remains a permanent fixture at the 2018 International May Festival.
