.Recently released, "Beautiful Stories" is the second record from INVSN, the Swedish supergroup led by Refused vocalist Dennis Lyxzen and members of, among others.(International) Noise Conspiracy, Lykke Li, DS-13 and Forest Cat, among others. Deeper even than on their debut, the quintet descends into melancholic shores. The thin guitars, pumping bass hooks, spherical keys and fiddly drums breathe the weight of post-punk with every stroke. Still, the band's very own pop appeal isn't lost on Lyxzen and, increasingly, Sara Almgren as they wrestle with inner demons, as well as societal ills, to lilting melodies and playful breaks. Fabulous record between inviting wistfulness, hopeful passion and militant turmoil.
