HR-BIGBAND
JÖRG ACHIM KELLER Direction
NILS LANDGREN trombone, vocals
Repeat date of 27.1.2022
On the trail of a classic: He is a big fan of Leonard Bernstein's music, Nils Landgren once confessed - and especially much connects him with the West Side Story and its immortal well-known melodies. The Swedish trombonist and singer had actually wanted to dedicate himself to this solitaire between opera and musical last season as part of his residency as a jazz artist at the Alte Oper Frankfurt. With pandemic-conditioned one-year delay now for Friday, 3 February 2023,
the catch-up date stands. Together with the hr-Bigband under the direction of Jörg Achim Keller, who was also responsible for the arrangement, Landgren retells West Side Story from 8 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Alte Oper. Keller's arrangement for large jazz orchestra, made especially for Landgren and the hr-Bigband, includes instrumental arrangements, but also numbers with vocals, after all, Landgren "doesn't want to miss the chance to sing such melodies once - with the support of a sovereign band" that he has known and appreciated for many years.
