Jerry Williams treats everyone the same. Whether it's her own acclaimed songs or her fabulous cover versions of bands like The Cure or Killers, she always puts her slightly mocking restraint into the tracks, yet remains so open and honest that it disarms you. Tracks like "Left And Right" or "Mother" with that rhythmic guitar work both in the solo acoustic version and in a band context, with which she made a splash at the Reeperbahn Festival this year, for example.
Jerry Williams started writing her first original songs at the age of twelve while taking classical guitar lessons. She played her first gig at 17 and now, at 22, the Portsmouth-based indie-pop artist is regarded as one of the UK's most exciting DIY discoveries. Musically inspired by musicians as diverse as Vampire Weekend, Coldplay, Jamie-T to Slow Club, Jerry Williams' songs deal primarily with her own experiences, but also stories from her surroundings - and she's been incredibly successful in the process. As well as self-released EPs, for which she bagged an early Unsigned Music Award for Best Production, she's had experience playing small clubs and big festivals.
Williams performed at Austin's SXSW festival as part of the all-important BBC Introducing, played several shows at Brighton's Great Escape and supported both the great Tom Jones and Californians SWMRS. Her last five singles have been streamed millions of times and she even made it onto German radio with "Mother". Topshop recently voted the singer its new favorite musician. With more songs in the can, 2019 looks to be an exciting year for Jerry Williams.
