No other artist embodies the marriage of music and protest as credibly as Joan Baez. She is an icon of political lyricism and "the voice and conscience" of her generation. Now Joan Baez is coming to the Alte Oper Frankfurt on her major tour under the title "Fare thee well". Her program will include classics such as "Diamonds and Rust", "We shall overcome", "Here's to you" and many others. Throughout her life Joan Baez has pleaded for peace and cohesion and has not shied away from visiting the scenes of the worst acts of war in order to show solidarity there and to give hope and courage with her music. Whether in Hanoi in the heavy bombardment of a US attack in 1972 or in Sarajevo in 1993, Joan Baez lived the "One World Thought" and believed in the power of people and music everywhere in the world. At the same time, she emphasizes to this day that music alone cannot make a difference. But when people join together to protest injustice, a hymn can unleash a very special energy. Joan Baez made these anthems immortal with her voice.
