Joern and The Michaels play "Kick Jazz". Jörn Peeck (drums), Michael Linke (piano) and Michael Haupt (electric bass) thus do not subordinate themselves to any existing style, but combine individual musical backgrounds with diverse influences ranging from progressive rock to traditional jazz trio.
So a blues piano with glissando attacks, a vocal warm but dominant electric bass and a rocking, melodic thinking drums find each other. These individual idiosyncrasies give rise to a jazz-rock that is characterised by a deliberately chosen, constant richness of contrast. 'Kick Jazz' is catchy-danceable and challenging-colorful at the same time, without missing the red thread in the whole.
The audience feels that. "Kick Jazz" delights many ears, even beyond the recognized venues of jazz. Joern and The Michaels can win over clubs, festivals, quiet concert halls as well as remote alpine huts.
2015 Joern and The Michaels' sophomore effort "YEAH! OH YEAH!" is a culmination, expansion and continuation of the debut "Kick Jazz". Even more refined is the expressiveness of the compositions. Even more colorful appears here the range between groove & ecstasy and calm & introversion. With an exploratory playing attitude, the band at times demonstrates the courage to experiment and sound-related new discoveries. The trio's role as a collective medium on the way to coalescing into a single body of sound is becoming increasingly apparent.
