"It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing". The song title of Duke Ellington is program, because the Johannes Hamm Trio wants above all: to play swinging music. Strongly influenced by the bebop vocabulary, the three musicians bring all kinds of jazz standards to the stage. Nicolai Daneck studies at the Musikhochschule in Mannheim, is a Jugend Jazzt award winner and was a finalist at the "International Jazz Piano Competition" in Langnau in 2019. Despite his young age of 21, he can already be heard in numerous jazz clubs in southern Germany. Jan Dittmann is also a very sought-after sideman in Southern Germany. Concerts with the "South Quartet" have taken him as far as Russia. Johannes Hamm completed his bachelor's degree at the Musikhochschule Mannheim and has been a master's student at New York University since September, where he studies with jazz drum legends such as Lenny White and Billy Drummond. Together, the musicians see themselves as participants in jazz culture, exploring the musical legacy of the great jazz musicians of the 40s and 50s. They play "sophisticated Hard Bop" - that promises hard swinging bebop melodies, deep grooving blues and intimate ballads. In addition, there are virtuoso solos of the three musicians, but also a finely tuned interplay as a rhythm section. Or to call it by its name: They play jazz!
