That's a vita that reads really interesting. Born in Colorado, Josephine Foster actually wanted to be an opera singer, then worked as a wedding and funeral singer as a teenager, according to legend, before studying and eventually releasing her first album in 2000. For "There Are Eyes Above", on which she accompanied herself on the ukulele, among other things, she was inspired by Tin Pan Alley. A "modern American folk singer," she has since also drawn inspiration from German composers such as Schubert, Schumann and Brahms, as well as poems by Rudyard Kipling and James Joyce. "Faithful Fairy Harmony" is the name of her latest album. Afterwards, critics everywhere raved about the amazing smoothness of her voice. Foster pleases herself in the role of the coloratura folk singer who takes the traditional genre into new spheres. "In dulci jubilo despite themes of morality and mortality. The whole thing is quite mystical," was the comment in the Frankfurt Journal. Josephine has not taken the path of a classical singer, but she still carries the spirit of the genre into her art. "At some point I thought to myself: if you sing your own arias or art songs, no one can accuse you of doing anything wrong. Many classical composers have been inspired by folk songs. That's why, for me, folk music and classical music are also closely related. Think of Brahms' 'Gypsy Songs', those rhythms, the modal scales. I love that. And I have also been inspired by it. I don't see myself as a folk singer. I'm just a singer who does her own thing - inspired by everything she comes across," she told Deutschlandfunk in an interview.
