Tenor Saxophone. Goat horns. Composer. Poet. - That's how the Norwegian introduces himself on his website. The poet can be easily understood. For Karl Seglem not only writes musically poetic music, but also publishes books of poetry and short stories. This fits the image of an artist strongly rooted in his own culture and Nordic folk music. Storytelling with and without words. What one rather stumbles upon is the Goat Horn. For the horn player not only lets himself be accompanied in the studio by old Norwegian folk instruments like the Hardanger fiddle, but also plays the goat horn himself. "His music is not atypically Nordic-world-jazzy but sounds special. Pieces as if born from opposite poles: Weltgewandtheit and Naturerfahrung," Titel Kulturmagazin wrote in his tribute and quoted him: "We simply make sounds and sound like no other jazz band in the world." Confident understatement. On his 2018 album "Nunatak - A Narrative," Seglem didn't dwell solely on the lyrical, but also presented his powerful and energetic compositions with plenty of anger in his belly. "Nature is important to me. When I'm in nature, I feel renewed, I find inspiration to be creative, and I discover true and often very simple joys," he went on record. So he doesn't like to keep watching the oceans around the world choke on plastic, the polar ice caps melt, the planet get warmer and warmer. "All of this has an impact on my lifestyle and my philosophy of life." He dedicated his new production, "The Oxofon," to his eponymous invention. He fitted the horn of an aurochs with a saxophone mouthpiece, creating a new instrument.
