.The exciting historical material about the Dutch Count Egmont, who in 1566 together with William of Orange tried to oppose the Spanish rule in Belgium and the Netherlands, already fascinated Goethe and inspired him to his "Egmont" drama.
The incidental music composed for the play was composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and supports the drama of the content in a sonorous way.
Actoring, drama, suspense; these are the strengths of actor Klaus Maria Brandauer, who - based on Grillparzer's recitation texts - brings the story to life as narrator. "Egmont" is complemented by Beethoven's 4th Symphony, which in the interpretation of Thomas Hengelbrock and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra emerges from the shadow of the heroic symphonies that frame it.
