The trio KLEZMERS TECHTER has played its way into the hearts of the audience over the years, since its foundation in 1994. Several CD recordings, a prize at the international ensemble competition in Privas (France) as well as the fact of being one of the few female klezmer ensembles to have been invited to all festivals speak for themselves. Countless performances, including at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Akademie der Künste Berlin, and the Theater am Gasteig Munich, have also taken KLEZMERS TECHTER to other European countries.
KLEZMER MUSIC originated in Yiddish-speaking Eastern Europe and has always been influenced by the non-Yiddish music of the region. After the first waves of emigration, it reached America, where it also combined with swinging jazz. There the klezmorim intensified their cooperation with other cultural groups such as Turkish and Hungarian musicians. KLEZMERS TECHTER continue this tradition. The three women bring musical experience of very different styles, from classical to new music to jazz.
In deep connection and with great respect for the musical heritage, KLEZMERS TECHTER tell of sorrow and longing, of bitter times, but also of great joy. They do this with a musical energy and a variety of sounds that is second to none. Their unique interpretation creates images from the past in the listener's mind's eye, images from the old Yiddish shtetl where klezmer music accompanied the smaller and larger incidents of community life.
When KLEZMERS TECHTER play, there is no sound without inner involvement. From deep melancholy to exuberant joie de vivre, KLEZMERS TECHTER make countless facets of human emotion resound, and in doing so, each also tells something of itself.
