Dancingly balancing the pianist Laia Genc walks with much musical charm between the structures of composed pieces and the freedom of improvised music. Playfully moving between different musical genres, she creates lively music that tells unheard stories and takes the listener on an imaginary journey. With her music, she is often a border crosser at the intersection of jazz and contemporary music. Open to the rich influences of globalizing life, she also draws from various cultural spheres, not least through a wide variety of collaborations.
With her trio "LiaisonTonique", Laia Genc presents mainly original compositions. Together with Markus Braun on bass and Jens Düppe on drums, hand-picked pieces from the jazz standard repertoire are repeatedly integrated into the band repertoire in idiosyncratic arrangements and with an eye on contemporary music. From lyrical modern piano trio passages to impulsive grooving songs and a playful approach to free improvisation, the three musicians exhaust the supreme discipline of the jazz piano trio.
On her CD release tour for the album "Birds", which was released in October 2017, Laia Genc makes a guest appearance at the FABRIK. With this new release, the musician proves once again that she is quite rightly considered one of the most talented, versatile and exciting young artists of the new jazz generation.
