As part of the LAB Festival, students of the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts will present their own variations of technology-based compositions. The works performed were created as part of the course Music and Technology, which is part of the composition course at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. It is taught by Annesley Black and Julia Mihály.
The course Music and Technology thematically explores the field of tension between man and machine and investigates the extent to which phenomena of technological progress influence compositional processes. Current trends in digital sound generation and media technology will be discussed, as will historical examples of mechanical and analogue musical instruments. Through research, work analysis and practical exercises, composition students actively engage with selected sub-areas of the thematic field of music and technology. Technologically influenced structures and materials are examined as well as forms of performative physicality in connection with real-time controlled sound synthesis.
