"Ligeti was extreme, his compositions are extreme - and we must be extreme too.“ Pierre-Laurent Aimard is more familiar with the work and person of György Ligeti than anyone else. For more than 20 years, the pianist worked closely with the composer. He was his trusted interpreter, studied Ligeti's piano works together with him, and in some cases performed them for the first time for the composer himself. He premiered Ligeti's works and made reference recordings of them. And last but not least, his playing inspired Ligeti himself for his compositional work. Ligeti dedicated almost all of his late piano etudes to Aimard. Aimard, who is in any case one of the most authoritative interpreters of contemporary piano music, knows the value of this collaboration, which he himself describes as "incredible", "both inspiring and shattering, true and at the same time not of this world". For many years now, he has been passing on his exclusive and extensive knowledge to young performers. In the "Atmosphères" music festival, Aimard will introduce Ligeti's music in a lecture-concert, play works by Ligeti and other composers, and tell of his close artistic relationship with him.
